Lesson: Tips & Gratuity at Events

Tips are a major part of bartending income. At private events, there are two ways you’ll receive gratuity:

  1. Pre-Arranged Gratuity
    • Sometimes gratuity is built into the client’s contract.
    • In this case, you’ll receive your portion along with your event payment.
  2. On-Site Tips
    • Guests may tip you directly at the bar.
    • Always bring a clean tip jar (we’ll provide branded jars when available).
    • We usually set out a fun, themed tip jar at events to encourage guest interaction. Always start the jar with a few bills inside so it looks inviting. Keep the jar neat, no handwritten “tip please” signs. A clean, intentional setup makes a better impression and tends to bring in more gratuity.
  3. Professional Tip Etiquette
    • Smile and thank every guest who tips.
    • Don’t pressure guests into tipping; let your service speak for itself.
    • If multiple bartenders are working the same event, tips are usually pooled and split evenly unless otherwise discussed.

📌 Key Takeaway: Tips are an important bonus, treat them as a reflection of your service quality.
