A tropical POG Cocktail (Passionfruit–Orange–Guava) that brings Hawaiian vibes to your glass. Originally made famous as POG juice in Hawaii, this blend of exotic fruit juices gets a boozy twist with rum, vodka, or tequila. It’s refreshing, colorful, and perfect for luaus, pool parties, and any summer celebration.
About the POG Cocktail
POG stands for Passionfruit, Orange, and Guava—a juice blend that originated in Hawaii and quickly became a tropical classic. This cocktail adds spirits to the mix, usually light rum or vodka, but tequila works too if you want a Margarita-style riff. The drink is light, fruity, and dangerously easy to sip.
Ingredients
- 2 oz light rum (or vodka/tequila)
- 2 oz passionfruit juice
- 2 oz orange juice
- 2 oz guava juice
- Ice cubes
- Garnish: orange slice or tropical fruit wedge
Steps
- Fill the glass. Add ice to a highball or hurricane glass.
- Mix juices + spirit. Pour rum (or vodka/tequila), passionfruit juice, orange juice, and guava juice into a shaker with ice. Shake lightly.
- Strain. Strain into your glass over fresh ice.
- Garnish. Add an orange slice or guava wedge for tropical flair.
Tips
- Juice quality: Fresh-pressed passionfruit or guava elevates the flavor over bottled blends.
- Spirit swap: Light rum = classic, vodka = clean, tequila = Margarita vibes.
- Make it fizzy: Top with soda water or sparkling wine for a spritz-like version.
Variations
- POG Margarita: Swap rum for tequila + 0.5 oz triple sec.
- Frozen POG: Blend all ingredients with ice until smooth.
- Mocktail: Leave out the alcohol—POG juice is delicious on its own.
Party Batch (8–10 drinks)
- 2 cups rum (or vodka/tequila)
- 2 cups passionfruit juice
- 2 cups orange juice
- 2 cups guava juice
Mix in a pitcher and chill for 2–4 hours. Stir before serving. Add sparkling water just before pouring if you want bubbles.
When to Serve
The POG Cocktail is made for luaus, summer BBQs, beach weddings, and tropical vacations. Its vibrant fruit layers also make it a fun alternative to a Tequila Sunrise.
